Community Engagement

We pride ourselves on having some of the most passionate and inspiring people working at Morgan. Not only do our people have a real love of science, maths and technology, but many also follow that passionate spirit through into other aspects of their lives and give back to their local communities.

We want our people to have the freedom to support what they care about most. We share these stories through our internal social media platform Yammer, where you will often see the generous spirit and nature of our employees - from bake sales to cultural celebrations and charity donations to sponsorship events.

As our sites and operations are spread across the globe it gives us the opportunity to work with many communities. We pride ourselves on being involved at a local level and look to understand the communities priorities and concerns.

Making reusable face masks for the Morgan teams

Our Elkhart site has a long history of supporting others. From donating much-needed items to a local ‘adopted’ family, to collecting and donating books to reading programs, blankets for the homeless, and making cards for nursing home residents, they are always looking for new ways to support their community. When the need arose among our Morgan family sites for reusable face masks to protect our employees from the transmission of COVID-19, the team sprang in to action.

Starting out using a single piece flow method, the team was empowered to solve problems, change methods and use tracking systems to make the mask making station run smoother.? Brainstorming methods led the team to set up an assembly process that allowed for improved output. They learned the steps needed to get suggestions approved and to bring to their problem-solving skills to life. The team is currently focusing on servicing our Morgan family and the orders continue to come in. Just one fantastic example of our Morgan teams supporting each other.

Healthy living initiative supports homelessness

Our Thermal Ceramics team in Australia won the Morgan Better You Better Life 2019 Ergonomics Contest, with their $360AUD prize, the team decided to make a donation to Orange Sky Australia. Orange Sky is a charity who provide clean laundry, warm showers and non-judgmental conversation to people experiencing homelessness, via their mobile van network. What a wonderful way to share their winnings!

Getting our hands dirty

Our Thermal Ceramics leadership team in the UK spent a week making a difference where it really matters, helping a local specialist primary school for children with Autism, Asperger’s Syndrome and social & communication difficulties. The team got hands on at the school by getting involved with painting, decorating and gardening.

Local donations

Following the festive period of indulgence, some of our UK sites collected food packages and toiletries for donation. Thank you everyone who generously donated to a such worthy cause.

Planting trees

During Morgan's 2019 Safety Week our Turkish team planned an afforestation project, planting 41 cypress trees close to their site. What a fantastic way to safeguard the environment, well done to the team!

Raising Awareness

Our Brazilian team took the opportunity to focus on key health awareness on their site. They took some time away from their normal working day to educate their employees about prostate cancer and breast cancer; promoting healthy living and ensuring employees were well equipped to spot the signs.

A passion for STEM and problem solving crosses ‘the line’ at Morgan

Not only do our people have a real love of science, maths and technology, but many also follow that passionate spirit through into other aspects of their lives. For Alexandra Chart, our Corporate Development Director, that means pushing yourself to the limit through competitive cycling.

In 2019 Alex completed the Tour de France route - 21 gruelling stages in one of the toughest challenges and most prestigious races in the cycling world. What makes it even more remarkable is that there is not an official women’s stage race. As part of team InternationElles, Alex completed the 3,460 kilometre route to highlight the inequality facing women in cycling.

“I hadn’t been with Morgan long when I approached the subject of taking some time off to ride the Tour route. Everyone has been really supportive and it has been great for me to highlight how women should be treated equally in the world of sport.”

For Alex there is a clear link between raising awareness of women in cycling and raising awareness of equality in the workplace. Alex believes: “STEM subjects have always been seen as ‘male’ subjects. In other roles during my career, I have typically been the only woman in the team or one of very few. I have never let this stop me and always felt just as worthy of that job role, or to compete in that race. Having more women and girls in STEM related job roles is something that should be the norm by now.”

Congratulations to Alex, your Morgan family is extremely proud of your achievements.

At Morgan we are on the journey to ensure that women are more broadly represented at all levels of our organisation. We still have some way to go to improve our gender diversity, but with employees like Alex helping to show the way, it is certainly a great time to be involved in the developments.
